Rolling element bearings are key components in our life. They can be found in everyday items such as motors, generators, compressors, pumps and fans, supporting loads and enabling rotation. It’s crucial to have a system in place to monitor the health of bearings, and vibration monitoring offers a great means for doing so. But because bearing fault signature is often masked by other frequency components in the system, raw vibration signals require advanced processing techniques to pick up developing fault indicators coming from rolling element bearing impulses.
A recent publication co-written by one of our senior dynamics engineers Nader Sawalhi (MAAS, PhD), released by Elsevier, looks into providing vibration signal processing techniques to better detect weak impulses and reliably diagnose bearing faults.
