We recently hosted Whitehorse City Council’s city planning and development team, where they explored Vipac’s Wind Tunnel to get a real-world appreciation of the pedestrian wind comfort conditions for the mean wind speeds — covering the walking, standing and sitting comfort criteria. This “fit for purpose” understanding enables us to recognise the importance of meeting specific wind conditions. (We determined that latte foam was unlikely to be blown off the cup at 6 m/s, which is above the walking comfort criterion, but would cool significantly.)
The City of Whitehorse has seen massive population growth and construction boom over the last decade. Our Wind Engineering team has had the opportunity to collaborate with the Council on the many developments springing up across Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.
